It was one of the worst storms to hit New Zealand in 55 years. Now, we can see the horrific devastation that was left behind after Cyclone Gabrielle battered New Zealand.

Cyclone Gabrielle which began it's path of terror as a tropical depression on February 5, 2023 would eventually strengthen into what is categorized as a category 3 cyclone according to Australian standards. While sustained winds were clocked at just over 100 mph, the 90 mph wind speed was constant. The result was this video which shows the flooding and tremendous tree loss which also wiped out bridges.

There's also been a share from a massive landslide caused by Cyclone Gabrielle.

One of the many transportation networks affected by Cyclone Gabrielle was this railway. A before and after of what the storm did to that railway gives you an idea of the power of this storm.

The Wikipedia page for Cyclone Gabrielle states that 10,000 people in New Zealand were displaced by this storm. Over 42,000 were without power for weeks. Now, it appears that repair work is being done to recover from the worst storm to affect New Zealand since 1968 when category 4 Cyclone Bola killed 7 people due to flooding.
