Before Tropical Storm Freddy took aim at Madagascar and Zimbabwe, it was spied from space by astronauts aboard the International Space Station. Video they shared shows the eyewall of this massive storm from thousands of feet above.

This video of Tropical Storm Freddy was captured by NASA on February 17, 2023 as it churned across the Indian Ocean. OSHA reports windspeeds were estimated to be 165 mph at that time. Notice the very compact and intense eyewall of this storm.

Three days later on February 20, 2023, footage was shared as the tropical storm grazed a resort in Pointe aux Biches.

On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, Tropical Storm Freddy made direct impact on Madagascar taking 4 lives according to VOA Africa. The storm is estimated by OSHA to have affected more than 3.3 million lives. Yale estimates that Tropical Storm Freddy was a Category 3 storm at the time of landfall. They also stated that this cyclone is the record holder for storm wind strength over time.

Tropical Storm Freddy's devastation is not over sadly. It's expected to regain strength again before it makes final landfall in Mozambique.
