There's a change in the weather that just might directly impact Illinois and it's El Niño's fault. A sudden change in the cyclical pattern has caused an alert by meteorologists and Illinois is specifically mentioned.

This is a new alert direct from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center. The bulletin says there's "a 62% chance of El Niño developing during May-July 2023." So what exactly does that mean?

As shared by NOAA, El Niño means weakening trade winds. The map they shared shows that both Missouri and Illinois are right on the border between warm and dry conditions and very wet.

It likely won't make much of a change for summer, but watch out for the late Fall and Winter months.

Some parts of Illinois could see warmer and dryer winter conditions while the northern areas could see a lot more moisture. Combine that with cold temps and the winter time in Illinois could be...interesting.

The complete NOAA alert for El Niño is an interesting read that's full of weather nerd facts. Time will tell how crazy Illinois weather gets before it's all said and done.
