No matter what you might have seen in a movie, trains do not normally just plow through flood water. That harrowing scenario was a reality recently as a train in Illinois was spotted carefully making its way through Mississippi River flood waters that stood in its way.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for five counties in response to the Mississippi River flooding.

The Mississippi River is getting high and the city of Davenport has announced new precautions.

It was the third most severe flood of the Mississippi River in the 20th century. The waters rose, levees failed and the end result was 28 lives were lost and thousands were displaced by the 'Great Flood of 73' that created havoc in Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

I think I speak for nearly everyone when I say how great the warm weather feels. And while it might start to green the grass and kick the songbirds into high gear, it has other consequences a bit farther north. Significant melting of the snowpack near the headwaters of the Mississippi River is happening as we speak. And that means an increased threat of flooding this spring.
