It was a rough winter across the Northland as we've seen some historic snowfall and the damage it can create. Across the area, homeowners suffered losses when garage roofs collapsed due to the weight of the snow. I personally know two people who had this happen to them.

While the snow impacted area residents, it also impacted businesses. In Duluth, the biggest headline came when a portion of the roof collapsed at the Miller Hill Mall, forcing the entire building to temporarily close.

It seems a similar incident recently played out in northern Wisconsin when the entry awning at a long-standing hotel collapsed, likely due to the weight of the snow. The incident happened at the Clarion Inn, located at 1000 10th Avenue N, Building A in Hurley, Wisconsin.

The hotel was evacuated and Hurley police, fire department, and Xcel Energy were on the scene.

Thankfully, the station updated the situation to confirm that there were no injuries reported with the collapse and evacuated guests did have the opportunity to return to the hotel later that night to collect belongings.

The Clarion Inn opened in the area as a Holiday Inn in 1972 and it is one of the largest hotels in the area. The hotel remains closed and there is no word as of yet on when they hope to reopen. I think we're all over winter at this point and we're ready for spring and summer weather to arrive.
