Many parts of eastern Iowa were treated to a pretty massive thunderstorm this past Sunday, May 7, 2023. Depending on your location, you might've only witnessed some rain and a few loud thunderclaps, other parts of the Hawkeye state dealt with a lot more.
Mother Nature put on quite a show on Sunday. High winds, lightning, hail the size of baseballs, and heavy rain. Much of it, we could do without. But in the storm's aftermath came something strange and beautiful. Clouds so puffy and peaceful that everyone just had to rush outside and get a picture!
If you blink you'll miss them, but red sprites recently exploded so big over an Iowa thunderstorm that they were seen by a photographer in Missouri who captured video of the phenomenon.
