Huge Wildfires in New York State are Even Visible from Space

There is a burn ban in place in New York State for the next few weeks. As the humidity gets lower and the strong spring winds blow, there is an elevated threat of fires in New York State and that forces officials to be more vigilant and expand the warnings.

The weather around Western New York, Central New York and even New York City has been just about perfect! There are forecasts that are calling for the temperatures to get well in to the 70s and even 80s before the rain returns and the threat of snow showers. Spring in New York can be frustrating.

However, here in New York State, brush is burned in certain locations every year that is organized by various municipalities and under the watch of the DEC and other agencies. The dry weather may postpone those from going any further, for now. The National Weather Service posted a Tweet of a video that shows these burn locations from high above the Empire State.

There is a good chance that you or your neighbor have started the lawn work or yard cleanup. Check ahead with your town to see when the brush collection will start. The burn ban in New York State will be in affect until at least May 14th. If the humidity stays low, the ban may be extended.
